REGION 23 BLOG’S ARTICLE

On 19-24 April 2014 Policewomen of Republic of Indonesia was honored to be the host of the 2nd Conference of IAWP Region 15. Apparently, the conference was also a farewell for our sisters who joined in on the Region 15, to then meet with the sisters of Southeast Asia and East Asia (Region 23). Another thing we can be proud of as the host of that conference was the IAWP’s President and BoD Ms. Jane Townsley attendance. We are really thankful for your attendance.

The conference itself was attended by 19 participants from Bangladesh, Malaysia, Filipina, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, Maldives, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, Australia, USA, Canada and 84 participants from Indonesia consists of Indonesian National Police (INP) at the headquarter and Regional Police, and also from other law enforcement agencies in Indonesia, as well as INP female cadets. The conference were attended by 10 international qualified presenters from Indonesia and other countries.

That conference was officially opened by Chief of Indonesian National Police General Sutarman with keynote speech delivered by the Indonesian Minister of Empowerment of Women and Children with the title “Policy of Gender Equity and Women Empowerment in 21st Century”.
The opening ceremony was attended by key officials of INP and other law enforcement agencies, as well as the Central Java provincial officials and Semarang city officials, the host city of the conference.
  1. Under the theme “Strengthening Asian Women Police Cooperation as a part of International Policing”, the conference committee was able to invite several international presenters, delivering materials:
  2. Human Trafficking ( focus on Prevention Women Trafficking across Asia);
  3. Women Empowering  (focus on increasing women police representation within all levels in international institution);
  4. Domestic Violence (focus on Cultural problem in handling domestic violence case and best practices);
  5. Women Role in UN Mission (focus on women police deployment in mission area);
  6. Drug Abuse (focus on women as a part of drug trafficking in Asia);
  7. Gender Responsive Policing;
  8. Crimes against Children (children phornography).
On that occasion, we also took our sisters attending the conference around to get them know better about Indonesian cultures, such as:
  1. visits to tourist attractions,
  2. visit to Central Java art and handicraft building;
  3. dance performances;
  4. products exhibitions of Central Java Province;
  5. batik making practice; etc
And not to leave it out, before the opening ceremony, we had a parade followed by all participants of the conference and we also had The Police Academy Cadets’ marching band performance.
